The Anvil Mountain Muskox

July 30, 2005

I just got my new camera, so I decided it was time for an evening excursion.
Kent, my concrete testor, was up from Anchorage with a cameara just like mine.
So we went to see if we could find some Muskox to photograph.

We found them just ouside of Nome in some deep brush.
I always find it fun to see how close I can get for photos.
(Anvil mountain in the background, with the "White Alice" Antennas.)
For some reason they really didn't mind
if we were just on the other side of the bushes.

This is a mature bull, you can tell because of the thick, hairless Boss
(the place where the horns come together)

Here is a young cow
reaching for the new growth on the alder bushes.
This little guy kept munching away,
the whole time constantly working his way closer and closer.
I was beginning to think he was stalking me
instead of the other way around!
