Immediately after the Kodiak job, I have been building Nome a new power plant,
and have really been needing a break, This working through the winter is killing me!
Finally I got my chance to get away.
I ended up choosing the Baja Peninsula, simply from comments by friends in the office, having never been there before,
I did some quick looking on the internet for someplace out of the way, with a place to relax in the sun and perhaps do some diving.
It didn't take long to come up with Cabo Pulmo.
Located on the Sea of Cortez, it is a sleepy little village of 101 set on the shore of the only hard coral reef in the Northern hemisphere.
There were only a few websites related to Cabo Pulmo and it didn't take long to connect with Marly at Cabo Pulmo Casas.
who set me up with what turned out to be an incredible place to stay!
So I traded some miles for a ticket and found myself on my way before I knew what happend.
But enough of that, let's get right in to the warm sun and strange place!
This photo is the first sight of the Sea of Cortez after flying out of San Diego Ca.
The baja of Mexico was a sudden idea and I have never spent any time investigating what it might be like,
This is looking straight down, at the Sea of Cortez!
Man does that look dry and desolate!
Clear at the end of the Baja Peninsula is the "East Cape" shown here.
We are making our turn along the southern facing shore just North of San Jose Del Cabo,
to head inland to the Los Cabos airport.
Everything down here is "cabo this or that",
but I found out that doesn't mean the airport is near any of the cities with the same word in it's name.
Coming "ashore" I had a great view of the coast near San Hose Del Cabo.
and "all 3 resorts" like this one dotted along a desolate coast.
At the time I did not know where this was or what to expect.
It is fun to know now, having taken the time to learn by experience!
