Big Salmon Skips!

Same Day - Getting in Deeper

page 1

Back down on the river, we found ourselves looking at a section
of the river that cut from side to side of the valley with a
perticularly steep bank on both sides.
we all began hunting for the best spot to cross,
each eager to be the one who finds it.
I made a judgement call to take a risk and jump off about a 4' bank,
cross the river and out at an odd angle. Although I was successful
I lost points because the others did not follow.
I crossed again at a different spot (from the right to the left in the photo)
to get back to the same side as the others, only to find
that Steven had made these tracks off the bank and ran the
lenght of the river for about two hundred yards!

steve_2830ACk.jpg His crossing was so cool he got major points for it,
not to mention we were very excited to give it a try!
Here is Steve doing it again with Sean taking photos.
The risk of this type of action is that the entry gives plenty of opportunity
to get your belt wet at splashdown, then you loose your sled in the river
because you are running down the length as opposed to making a quick crossing.

Note the water at entry is very deep as this is a bend in the river.

But with good balance and speed, he made the landing with style... steve_2831k.jpg

Though I might add, if his sled wasn't borrowed,
I think he would have been at it too!
