The Safety Roadhouse was packed with well wishers
and checkpoint radio operators
and as I worked my way into the crowed, and un-packed my helmet,
I found out they had just started the race!
It seems they had waited until the wind died down.
The race began at 2:00

6_0201.jpg I was here to see the race, so I headed right back out
and enjoyed watching the first racers coming off the cape hill.

This is a very bumpy area
and I expected to see some eager contenders
Take it a bit too hard.
but every racer worked his way through
and onto the plains to Safety.

72 racers at a 30 second interval
turned out to be a string of sleds!

I headed to safety for a warm up
before heading back to the finish line.
Here I am passing some fish camps along the coast.
