Snake River
Feb. 11, 2006
Well here it is, the first ride of 2006
The temperatures have been hovering between 20 and 30 below for over a month, the wind just doesn't let up,
and there has just been no snow. All good reasons to stay in doors.
I haven't minded not being home this year, since the report is, there is no snow there either.

I got these toys right after coming to Nome this year. and there they sat...for a very long time. The sled is a 04 Polaris 700 Switchback 144 with low miles, which I tuned up for some riding after the weather broke. and it finally did! |

I was out looking over the situation when Doug Johnson, The existing plant operator, wondered on by with the same idea on his mind. He called his brother Cliff and in no time we were riding across the wide open tundra utilizing a designated dog sled trail because the snow was just a bit thicker there. |

It was great to finally get on my new sled and see how it felt. This is my first long track, and it felt pretty good! That is Anvil mountain behind us. |

I didn't understand the reason why someone would go to so much work building markers when the country was so wide open with little obstructions.
It seems the lack of landmarks makes it impossible |
